The cabinet under the kitchen sink is usually the messiest spot in the house: pipes in the middle, a pile of spray bottles at the front and a damp sponge somewhere at the back. A good under sink organizer helps, but only after you have measured the space and decided what belongs there. Below are ten practical kitchen organization ideas, from the sink cabinet to the pantry and drawers, based on guidance from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the EPA, the USDA and university extension services.

1. Measure before you buy. Under-sink cabinets are not empty boxes. Write down three numbers: the inside width (wall to wall, not door to door), the depth, and the clear height below the lowest pipe or the drain trap. Note where the trap, shut-off valves and any garbage disposal sit, because that is the zone you must keep free. Then compare those numbers with the dimensions on the product page. Most organizers on our store list dimensions in centimeters; divide by 2.54 to get inches.
2. Look for leaks while the cabinet is empty. According to the EPA's WaterSense program, household leaks can waste more than 9,300 gallons of water per year in an average home, and fixing easily corrected leaks can cut water bills by about 10%. With the cabinet cleared out, check the pipe fittings and the underside of the faucet for drips or water on the outside of the pipe. The EPA also suggests a simple meter test: read your water meter, use no water for two hours, and read it again. If the number changed, you probably have a leak somewhere.
3. Use height on both sides of the drain. The space beside the pipes is usually tall but narrow, which suits a tiered or rotating unit. The 360° Rotating Organizer turns a full circle so you can reach bottles at the back without pulling everything out, and its listing states it holds up to 20 kg (44 lb) per tier. For a larger cabinet, the 360° Rotatable Multifunctional Storage Rack works the same way and is listed for kitchen, bathroom and office use.
4. Put the door to work. The inside of the cabinet door is free storage for lightweight items such as sponges, gloves and cloths. The Kitchen Hanging Organizer installs without drilling, is made of stainless steel and measures about 10.4 × 9.8 inches (26.5 × 25 cm), with single- and double-layer options. Check that the door still closes and clears the pipes once it is loaded. On top of the counter, the SinkMaster Organizer (about 11.8 × 4.7 × 3.9 inches / 30 × 12 × 10 cm) keeps the dish soap and brush in one spot next to the sink.
Under-sink and sink-side organizers
The sink cabinet is where most homes keep dish detergent, bleach and other cleaners, so organization and safety go together. The CPSC's "Locked Up Poisons" guidance recommends:
In practice: group all cleaners in one tray or tier you can lift out, keep that tier at the back or up high if you have young children, and fit a latch to the cabinet doors. Save the number for Poison Help, 1-800-222-1222, in your phone. Never store food in the under-sink cabinet.
6. Rotate stock. North Dakota State University Extension advises keeping canned and dry goods in a cool, dry place, away from the stove, the sink and spots with temperature extremes. It recommends "first in, first out": write the purchase date on packages, move older items to the front and use them first. Its approximate shelf lives for unopened goods are:
University of Missouri Extension adds that you should keep cans off the floor, where moisture can cause rust, and discard cans that bulge, leak, are badly dented or have broken seals. For specific foods, the USDA's FoodKeeper app (developed with Cornell University and the Food Marketing Institute) gives storage times.
7. Decant dry goods into airtight containers. Michigan State University Extension recommends storing cereals, grains and flours in airtight containers of glass, metal or plastic with tight lids to help keep pantry pests out, buying grain products in smaller amounts and wiping up spills promptly. The GlassKeeper 12-Piece Storage Jar Set is made of glass, the StoreMaster Airtight Storage Containers Set is sold as airtight, and the CerealKeeper dispenser (about 7.7 × 6.5 × 16.7 inches) keeps cereal on the shelf in a single tower. Label each container with the contents and date so FIFO still works after you decant.
Pantry organization
The same idea works in the fridge: the FreshGuard Refrigerator Organizer is sold as food-safe and keeps similar items together so older ones stay visible.
8. Move spices and wraps off the counter. The Slim Wall-Mounted Spice Rack is transparent plastic and measures about 12.6 × 5.3 inches (32 × 13.5 cm), so you can see every jar. The Spicify Storage Rack is a stainless steel rack of about 13.4 × 5.9 × 16.5 inches (34 × 15 × 42 cm) for the counter or a shelf. The Tearix shelf (about 11.8 × 3.9 × 2.4 inches) gives foil and baking paper a fixed home.
9. Divide your drawers. A drawer without dividers turns into a junk drawer. The ChicFold Drawer Organizer folds flat and comes in 6, 9 and 12-grid versions. Measure the inside of the drawer and pick the grid that fits your utensils, cloths or bag clips.

The bathroom vanity has the same problem as the kitchen sink: pipes in the middle and a mix of cleaners, toiletries and medicines. The CPSC's advice applies here too: keep medicines and cleaners in their original containers, separate from each other, and lock them away from children. On the wall, the SilverCaddy is a wall-mounted stainless steel organizer, and the EssentialsBox mounts with adhesive. The rotating 360° Rotating Organizer also works under a bathroom sink.
